In the heart of the Wastelands lies a castle.

Prince Algernon Darkbain has lived his entire life within the castle walls. He knows only the few people who have been allowed near him. He has heard only stories of the world beyond his sanctuary. Although he can have anything that most people only dream of, Algernon can't help but feel a sense of emptiness. His closest friend is paid to spend time with him. Everyone else fears crossing him, although Algernon would never harm another person. Though trained in swordsmanship, the prince has never even drawn blood.

When a woman's voice calls to Algernon from across the Wastelands and beyond the mysterious Forest Tryng, others write it off as a dream or delusion. But Algernon knows that it's something much more important. Deep down, he knows that this woman will fill the emptiness inside him. When the rest of the court refuses to assist him and he's imprisoned by his father, the king, Algernon has no choice but to plot his escape and enter the dangerous outside world alone.
